Stay Informed, Stay Connected

Reading the morning newspaper. Catching up on the news. Staying connected to the world. These things matter deeply — and vision loss shouldn’t take them away.

NFB-NEWSLINE® gives blind, low vision, and print-disabled Hawaiʻi residents free audio access to hundreds of newspapers and magazines, available any time of day or night. If you or someone you love has been struggling to read print, NEWSLINE was made for you.

How NEWSLINE Supports Independence

Staying up to date with the news — local, national, and international — supports cognitive engagement, social connection, and a sense of continuity. NFB-NEWSLINE makes that possible for residents who can no longer comfortably read print.

With NEWSLINE, you can:

Listen to the Honolulu Star-Advertiser or your favorite national newspaper every morning

Catch breaking news from CNN, NPR, and dozens of other sources throughout the day

Browse magazines across dozens of categories, from health and fitness to popular culture

Receive emergency weather alerts localized to your zip code

Check TV listings and job listings

All of it is free. All of it is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, from anywhere in Hawaiʻi.

For Caregivers and Family Members

You can’t always be there in person — but NEWSLINE can. If you’re helping a parent, grandparent, or loved one manage life with vision loss, enrolling them in NFB-NEWSLINE is one of the most practical things you can do.

Once their account is set up, they can call in from any phone and access hundreds of publications immediately. No passwords to remember on screen. No navigation required beyond the phone keypad. If they have an Alexa, they can ask it to read the news by voice.

How to help:

  1. Apply on their behalf

Online, or call to apply by phone.

  2. Help set up the phone service or Alexa skill on their first call

Sit with them for the first login; after that the phone remembers their number.

  3. Remind them their subscriber ID and security code are the only things they need

Keep the codes somewhere easy to find near the phone.
